Project Taunton has announced the speaker line-up for its much anticipated Construction Breakfast being held at Somerset College on Friday, 12 September.

Providing an overview of Taunton's regeneration and outlining how local builders and construction firms can capitalise on opportunities, the speakers include:

  • Ian Franklin of Project Taunton - will give an update on the town centre regeneration including proposed scale and timing of developments including Firepool.
  • Roger Stone of ConstructionSkills - will provide practical advice for businesses and information about the proposed Firepool on-site National Skills Academy for Construction (NSAfC) and the implications for employers.
  • Neil Higginson of the Somerset Centre for Enterprise - will talk about what the Somerset Centre for Enterprise offers businesses.
  • Barbara Bennett, Head of Construction at Somerset College - will outline the business benefits of training from a construction point of view.
  • Tim Simmonds of The Genesis Project - will look at the increasing importance of sustainable practices in construction today.

Also on hand for practical business advice will be Business Link with details of support available to local firms.

Project Taunton is the £1billion, 50 hectare town centre regeneration. It is by far the largest town centre development taking place in Somerset and one of the largest in the South West.

Talking about the forthcoming event, Ian Franklin, Project Director of Project Taunton, said: "There's a lot of doom and gloom in the construction sector at the moment but the Project Taunton team remains positive. Taunton's regeneration provides fantastic opportunities for local firms to secure contracts in the short, medium and long term, close to home. Competition for the work is bound to be hot but we're keen to get local firms involved and this event will help builders do that. We've already had a tremendous response to the event and would encourage anybody wanting to book a place to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

The Project Taunton Construction Breakfast is being hosted in partnership with The Somerset Centre for Enterprise and Train to Gain. This is an excellent opportunity for all local construction companies, whether they are sole traders, small to medium size enterprises or major developers, to be part of this project and Taunton's future.
