Following planning consent for significant improvements to Goodland Gardens, the Project Taunton delivery team are pleased to announce that the contract for the works has been awarded to Somerset building contractors R G Spiller Ltd.
Work started on Monday 10 October to upgrade the open space adjacent to Debenhams, reconfigure the riverside walkway, replace the dilapidated bridge over the Mill Stream and tidy the adjoining landscaped space which stretches behind the newly opened Museum of Somerset. The plans include new skateboard friendly hard landscaping, enhanced lighting and seating.
Ian Franklin, Project Director for Project Taunton, said: “New easy access walkways leading directly from Bridge Street into Goodland Gardens and replacing the steps over the Mill Stream will make a huge difference to people making their way along the south bank of the River Tone.”
“It’s another key element in our ongoing plan to raise the profile of the River Tone through the town centre and create fantastic connecting spaces for the public to enjoy.”
Andrew Howard, Managing Director of R G Spiller Ltd commented, “As a local contractor we are delighted to be involved in this welcomed community project. It is going to greatly improve the area from both an aesthetic and practical view for residents, and be more attractive for visitors. It should become a central landmark for the town.”
