TAUNTON-based architects Reed Holland have been commissioned to breathe new life into the centre of their home town as part of Taunton's regeneration.
The Project Taunton delivery team has announced the appointment of the local architects to design Taunton's tired and outdated 1970s High Street, feature its links to Vivary Park and the other shopping streets, and to carry out the first phase of the scheme.
The work will be funded by Government funds earmarked for the regeneration of Taunton town centre.
Reed Holland's exciting ideas to reinstate the High Street as Taunton's principal shopping street are welcomed by the Project Taunton partners.
Jonathan Scanlan, heading up the team at Reed Holland, has already been out and about speaking to businesses in the town centre and has plans for a programme of information events to which businesses and the public will be invited.
Ian Franklin, of Project Taunton, said: “The Reed Holland team's creativity and their passion for their home town will make a real difference to Taunton Town Centre. They're on the spot and extremely responsive to shoppers, businesses and providers of evening entertainment. What better combination is there to ensure a bright future for our High Street?”
On behalf of Reed Holland Associates, Jonathan Scanlan said, “We are delighted that our team have secured this exciting commission to help regenerate Taunton’s High Street retail area. Reed Holland Associates are celebrating thirty years in business this year and as a Taunton based practice it is a great honour to be given this opportunity to help shape the future of our County Town” said Jonathan Scanlan.
