Roll Up, Roll Up! Last Chance to Visit Taunton’s Empty Shop Project
Friday, 12 March 2010 15:14
Visitors can learn to juggle, plate spin or walk on stilts with the ‘street circus’, be entertained by musicians and folk singers, have a go at mosaics and stick weaving and also try some delicious local food.More than 3,000 people have visited ‘Our Place, Your Place: Taunton’ since it opened. This final week continues the theme of Taunton past, present and future.
Project Lead, Jan Horrell, said: “If you haven’t been to visit us yet then make sure you come along this week as it’s your last chance to be a part of this fantastic project. We’ve been delighted by the number of visitors so far and that everyone’s been getting stuck in - sharing stories, bringing in historic objects, learning new skills or discovering something new about Taunton. The project will culminate on Saturday with a fun-packed celebration of performance and learning and we hope lots of people will come and join in.”

The aim of ‘Our Place, Your Place: Taunton’ is to bring residents together to learn about the town’s past, present and future - local people can learn about Taunton’s history as well as finding out about future regeneration plans. The project is located at 7/8 High Street, next to Past Times in what was previously Peter Briggs shoe shop.
‘Our Place, Your Place: Taunton’ is part of the Museums, Libraries and Archives (MLA) Council Our Places project funded by the Transformation Fund. The two main partners involved in ‘Our Place, Your Place: Taunton’, Project Taunton, the team responsible for the regeneration of the town centre and Somerset County Council are supported by Taunton Deane Borough Council. Associated partners include Thrive (a celebratory arts organisation for Somerset), Somerset Waterways Development Trust and Transition Town Taunton.
All events are free but some booking is required. To find out more about ‘Our Place, Your Place: Taunton’ visit www.ourplacetaunton.org.uk or contact Project Lead, Jan Horrell on 07825 978820 or JHorrell@somerset.gov.uk.
