Empty Shop is Home for ‘Our Place, Your Place: Taunton’

Threeladies‘Our Place, Your Place: Taunton’ will be based in what was formerly Peter Briggs shoe shop on the High Street and opens to the public on 8 February 2010. The packed programme of activities and exhibitions looking at Taunton’s past, present and future will take place over a six week period until 20 March.

The two main partners involved in the project are Project Taunton, the team responsible for the regeneration of the town centre, and Somerset County Council including its Heritage Services. Associated partners include Somerset Skills for Learning, Thrive (a celebratory arts organisation for Somerset), the Genesis Centre and Transition Town Taunton.

Talking about ‘Our Place, Your Place: Taunton’, Jan Horrell, Project Lead, said: “This is a really exciting project for the people of Taunton. Young and old can come and learn about how the town is changing, how it will affect them and how they can get involved. We’ll also look at the town’s history and see what we can learn from the past as well as having talks, exhibitions and art sessions that everyone can join in with. The aim is to have lots of fun whilst also finding out about where we live. We’ve got a host of local organisations involved and a team of volunteers who’ll be running the shop – so do come along and see what’s going on.”
