School pupils get involved in landscaping the new Taunton

bishfoxjun09commsgroupwithsteveswanStudents from Bishop Fox's school recently attended a Conference Day held by Project Taunton and partners to learn about the developments taking place at Longrun Meadows and come up with ideas for the new landscaping project. Approximately 50 Year 10 students went to the event at the Genesis Centre which involved a site visit and creative planning sessions.

Following an introduction to the Longrun Meadows landscaping project on the site of the recent flood alleviation works the group walked the length of Longrun Lane to get a feel for the area. Then, in smaller groups, the pupils were given one of six briefs covering individual aspects of the landscaping. Topics covered included natural habitats, active areas, buildings and shelters, forest school activities, travelling to and across Longrun Meadows and communications. Landscape architect for the project, Steven Swan joined the students at the end of the exercise to discuss ideas which will be used to inform future designs.

bishfoxjun09campingovernightactivityTalking about the event, Robbie Lowes of the Project Taunton team, said: "Today has been a great learning adventure for us and the students. Getting out of the classroom and being involved with a real, working project is an incredibly valuable experience for the school and we've benefitted from their energy and inspiration. In addition, the outcomes produced from today's sessions will provide teaching staff with materials for future study."
