The first week of Taunton’s empty shop project, ‘Our Place, Your Place: Taunton’, has been a great success with on average 130 people coming each day to see the exhibitions, talk about old times and learn about Taunton’s future.
Plans for a new rural open space right on the edge of Taunton have been approved. Proposals for the 28 hectare (65 acres) green space include bridges across the river, pedestrian and cycle paths, forest school provision, seating shelters, barbeques, wildflower meadow and wildlife hides. There are also exciting plans for a large green cathedral made of willow which will be the first of its kind in the UK.
An empty shop on Taunton’s High Street is being converted into a base for ‘Our Place, Your Place: Taunton’. The aim of the project is to bring residents together to learn about how Taunton is changing and give local people the opportunity to get involved with the plans. It will also look at the history of Taunton and encourage people to share memories, opinions and pictures of the town.
Taunton's new flood protection scheme has proved its worth during the recent heavy downpours. The last two months have seen exceptional rainfall and flooding across much of the country but properties in Taunton remained dry and safe.
