Coal Orchard

Coal Orchard, named for its part in the historic transportation of coal via the Bridgwater and Taunton canal, is the area designated for smaller independent shops, in keeping with those along St James Street, Middle Street, The Courtyard and Riverside Place. Apartments and work spaces will add another dimension to this ‘urban village’. Imagine Taunton’s version of the Brighton Lanes or Exeter’s Gandy Street. Whatever the plans, Project Taunton pledges to safeguard this area’s unique character.
