The Britannia Construction team are on site preparing the area for work to start. It’s been a long haul and not without its critics but we feel strongly that Castle Green should be restored to its former glory as Taunton’s principle civic space. It is surrounded by listed buildings and is a scheduled ancient monument encompassing part of the outer bailey of Taunton's medieval castle and the burial ground associated with the Anglo Saxon Minster.
The Britannia team are receiving heritage and archaeology briefings from Somerset Heritage service to prepare them for what the site may reveal, as in previous Castle Green works archaeology including disarticulated human remains was uncovered.
