Taunton Green

A large park of 3.8 hectares, originally bought by Taunton Deane Borough Council on 25th June 1948 from Col. E. St C. Pemberton for the sum of £2 600. The entrance gates were erected and paid for with £700 that had been given by Taunton Massachusetts, for the relief of air raid distress. The park was then named Taunton Green after the area of open space in the centre of the American city and officially opened by the Duke of Edinburgh in 1952. This site has many facilities for the people of north Taunton.
Four tennis courts, three football pitches, a changing pavilion and car park complement two children's play areas. The site is bordered by Wellsprings Primary School and on two sides by Cheddon Road and Hope Corner Lane.
The council has plans for improving one of the tennis courts making it usable for other ball games - a multi use games area and perhaps a youth shelter.
