At the start of 2008, the population of Taunton Deane was 108,700 – over 20% of the Somerset population of 525,800.
Taunton has a very high number of jobs relative to its population, with 81.6% of the population economically active. This compares to 78.9% in Great Britain.
Over a third of employed personnel (34.6%) are employed in managerial and senior official positions, professional occupations and associate professional or technical positions.
