Employment and skills

It is anticipated that jobs created as a result of Taunton’s town centre regeneration will exceed 7,500¹, and in the first instance, a significant number of these jobs will require the whole spectrum of construction skills.

We are committed to working with developers to estabish a sustainable employment programme; assisting local people to access jobs and training. ConstructionSkills (formerly CITB)is working with St Modwen towards a National Skills Academy for Construction in Taunton. A training and employment agreement will require developers to communicate occupier information at an early stage in order for training requirements ranging from IT, administration and customer service to professional development and basic skills to be provided locally.

A Taunton Deane Employment & Skills Group with membership including local education providers, Job Centre Plus, Connexions, Business Link, SWRDA and private business will keep abreast of trends and employer requirements in an attempt to maximise local employment opportunities.
