Tangier consists of a number of brownfield areas to the south of the town extending from the Bus Station, along the River Tone to the Tesco superstore and ultimately French Weir Park. With the majority of the land in public ownership, and with its proximity to the town centre, this area is considered to be perfect for appropriate small scale commercial and professional development similar to that in Castle and Corporation Streets. In addition, a regional housebuilder has acquired outline planning consent to build 200 new homes on the former British Gas site and facing the river.
It is important to note that although this area lies within the floodplain, flood alleviation plans are well advanced and building work will not commence until the appropriate solutions have been put in place.
A second major road scheme linking the A38 (Wellington Road) to Bridge Street and the two Park & Ride schemes will significantly ease the flow of traffic to this area making it a very desirable part of town in which to work and live.
A Project Taunton task group is considering proposals for this area and further information will be available on this website as plans progress.
