This week sees the launch of a brand new website designed to keep us in the picture with the very latest on Taunton's regeneration. Locals are being encouraged to log on to www.projecttaunton.co.uk to find out how the project will affect them, and how to get involved, as exciting developments change the face of our town over the next few years.
Regular updates will be sent to all those who register on the site, and ever-changing online news and a timeline will make sure we know what is underway. The website shows how Project Taunton is evolving already, what is promised for the town and its people, and when we can expect to see developments taking place.
Featuring useful graphics and maps, the site helps to explain how each area of Taunton - divided into Firepool, the Cultural Quarter, Tangier and the Town Centre retail area - will take shape. It brings to life plans which have been talked about since the original ‘vision' for the town was created, and shows how Project Taunton is now becoming a reality.
The website will grow with the project, and materials for schools, businesses and individuals will all be made available as time goes on. Over time users will be able to see how each bit of the development will take shape, and photographs of work on site will be regularly updated. The site will feature a ‘poll' facility, and the Project team will be calling for locals to vote on different topics every few weeks to keep in touch with user's opinions.
‘The website will be an ever-changing ‘shop window' showing all of us what's in store and what is happening at each step of the way in Taunton. It will give all of us an insight into what to expect, and the ways it will affect all of us - from new jobs and training to new shops and leisure facilities', says Robbie Lowes of the Project Taunton team. ‘The new website will also be a place where all of us locally can submit our memories, impressions and photos of the town - so we keep the history of Taunton alive as well creating an exciting future,'
Abbie Pepperell, who has lived in Taunton all her life says - ‘Even if you read the papers it can be hard to keep up with what's going on sometimes, so having a regular newsletter sent to me makes it much easier. Looking at this website has helped me understand which parts of the town will be developed, and as a local resident I look forward to seeing pictures of it all as building work starts to happen'.
